Australian Open 2014 – Day 7
On day 7 our last Aussie Cassie Delacqua was sent out of the competition, by the talented Canadian Eugenie Bouchard. After taking the first set Casey was over powered by the young exotic 19 year old. Despite the loss, Casey is happy to have improved her world ranking, entering the top 100. Eugenie was outnumbered by the Aussie crowd, but still felt the energy and support from her Aussie based Genie army. Every time she goes out on court, they give her a small stuffed Aussie animal toy as a welcome gift.
Number one seed Serena Williams was also knocked out of the open by giant killer Anna Ivanovic. Serena wasn’t quite herself on court yesterday, as she battled a back injury. The Serbian beauty Anna, said beating Serena was one of the best wins of her career.
Li Na was keen to impress her coach Carlos after almost getting knocked out of the tournament in the last round. She practiced her heart out and put in a flawless performance over Ekaterina Makarova 6-2, 6-0.
Number 2 seed Novak Djokovic was as relaxed as ever, joking around on court during his fourth round win over Fabio Fognini in straight sets. And he is still working on an impersonation of his coach Borris Becker. Swiss sensation Stan Warwinka was through to the quarter finals in 3 sets, and now has the daunting task of playing the world number 2. He used to bring a Homer Simpson doll on tour and take photos with all the players, but he says now he has retired Homer.
