Programming Highlights Feb 2017

This has been a big month for JOY

With two successful outside broadcasts taking place, one at Carnival and the other at Pride March. We were able to introduce some new presenters to our OB team and it was great to welcome back some old hands. Carnival was a fun day – a highlight was meeting Wayne and Tom from Gogglebox Australia. Pride March was also a lot of fun. It was a particular honour for us to talk to Mark Nannup, the man who led the Indigenous smoking ceremony, which was held for the first time ever at Pride March.

We are currently planning our next big OB – the Sydney Mardi Gras Parade in March, for which we have a stellar team lined up.

As it has been my first month at JOY, I have been taking the opportunity to air-check as many shows as possible. Air-checking approximately 15 shows has been a good opportunity for me to meet and greet the presenters. Most of the feedback has been well received and taken on board, with many shows implementing changes to their show based on the feedback. I have also been grateful for the opportunity to learn from so many of our talented presenters.

We have a new show on the grid, with Katie Purvis hosting Miss Chatelaine on Tuesday night – Katie plays mostly Australian folk, blues, roots and pop music and showcases LGBTIQ artists and their stories. It is great to have her back on the airwaves. Also great is moving Little Pod of JOY to 11pm Monday night.

Big shoutout to Warren Peatt, who has stayed on as Daytime Team Leader. He is looking at implementing some changes to daytime and is an asset to the team.

New Programs New Grid

With a new grid just around the corner, commencing April 1 it’s been great seeing so many new submissions and shows wanting to return to JOY.

If you have a proposal for a Show check out the Become a Volunteer page on our website.

Thanks,

Chris Tait – Program Director
