JOY stands with the trans community
A message from Madeleiene Swain, President, JOY Media; and Paul Scott-Williams, CEO, JOY MEDIA.
JOY Media is Australia’s largest LGBTQIA+ media service, broadcasting live and online across our country.
We are the voice of our community and our diverse and inclusive programming offers all members the opportunity to be heard, understood, represented, defended, encouraged and nourished.
JOY is proud to support our LGBTQIA+ communities, and in particular, our trans community. Trans people have always been part of our family, and they always will be.
The anti-trans campaigns being imported from the US and UK pose a fundamental threat to the safety of our beautiful trans community, and by extension, all of us.
Research has consistently found a clear majority of Australians support the rights and dignity of all trans people. So any attack against trans people is an attack against us all.
As an organisation, JOY Media opposes any policy, statement or action that would threaten the rights, freedoms, or safety of the trans community.
We support the freedom of trans and gender diverse people to be themselves, to have bodily autonomy, and to be safe in their communities.
JOY is a proud signatory to the Trans Justice Project’s Statement of Solidarity with the Trans Community, along with more than 240 organisations and businesses across Australia. For more information, and to see the full list of signatories, visit the Trans Justice Project’s website.
