Production Update March 2017
Did you miss out on all the action as we broadcast live from Oxford Street for the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras earlier this month? Never fear! Our dedicated team of podcasters have outdone themselves by adding over 65 podcast episodes from our huge weekend of Mardi Gras broadcasting on JOY, SBS digital, and nationally on the Community Radio Network.
Our weekend in Sydney started on Friday night with Chris and Cam broadcasting C + C Drive Factory live from the Flinders Hotel. The boys interviewed a range of queer DJs and musicians (including singer-songwriter Steve Grand), social media identity Mitchell Coombs, and people involved in the 2017 parade (such as Selamat Datang, who were marching for LGBTI rights in Indonesia). Find these podcasts and more like them via the C + C Drive Factory program page on the JOY website.
On Saturday morning we were woken by JOY’s Mardi Gras Breakfast with Anastasia and Warren – two hours of hilarity that got everyone pumped for the week ahead. Following that was Saturday Magazine, with Tass and Macca getting their moment to immerse themselves in the glitz and glamour of Mardi Gras by hosting a special program from the SBS studios in Sydney. Their guests included comedian Joel Creasey, Leader of the Opposition Bill Shorten, SBS CEO Mike Ebeid, Sydney Mardi Gras CEO Terese Casu, Human Rights Commissioner Edward Santow and many more.
As the afternoon progressed, we got the chance to hear Adam Richard and Michael Pohl’s special Warm Up With Mardi Gras program and the Pre Pre Show with the Family Matters crew. Then it was the commentary of the parade itself from 7pm. You can hear all of these via our Community Highlights feed.
Sunday included our Lazy Sunday Brunch, an Urban Dreaming Mardi Gras special and, for the first time ever, a two-hour program dedicated to sharing the stories of our diverse LGBTI multicultural communities on our True Colours program.
We thank the program production team of volunteers not only for making this range of podcasts possible, but also for the effort they make day in, day out to create unique content that uplifts, informs and inspires our communities globally. Remember, you can support our podcasts by subscribing to your favourites on iTunes, and rating and reviewing them.
