WORLD AIDS DAY 2016
Thursday December 1 – WORLD AIDS DAY 2016
In keeping with tradition, JOY 94.9 is again proud to stand alongside people living with HIV this December 1, World AIDS Day, the 23rd anniversary of our first broadcast.
The national World AIDS Day theme for Australia this year is:
HIV is still here – and it’s on the move.
Show your support for people living with HIV on World AIDS Day by wearing a red ribbon, the international symbol of HIV awareness and support.
World AIDS Day aims to encourage Australians to educate themselves and others about HIV; to take action to reduce the transmission of HIV by promoting prevention strategies; and to ensure that people living with HIV can participate fully in the life of the community, free from stigma and discrimination.
As a community and as individuals, there is a lot we can do in relation to HIV. Working in partnership with people living with HIV, we can encourage others to understand how HIV is transmitted.
We can support people to access testing, treatment and care, as we know that commencing treatment at the early stages of HIV results in better health outcomes and reduces the likelihood of onward transmission.
In partnership with Living Positive Victoria, Victorian AIDS Council and the Burnet and Doherty Institutes, JOY 94.9 will again provide extensive coverage leading up to and including World AIDS Day.
You are invited to the following community events, but if you cannot make it, be sure to listen to JOY 94.9 on December 1 – World AIDS Day.
