#AllAboard the Pride Ride- JOY partners with Yarra Trams
We’re so excited to announce that JOY Media is partnering with Yarra Trams, Victorian Pride Centre and Midsumma Festival for #AllAboard 2024.
The All Aboard competition invites Victorians to design the 2024 #AllAboard Pride tram’s wrap, with the winner being decided by public vote. This tram is one of the most recognizable trams in Melbourne’s tram networks and is a popular feature of the annual Pride March in St. Kilda.
This initiative is a celebration of Melbourne’s incredibly diverse LGBTIQA+ communities and the tram will be the only one to be wrapped in a design by the public.
Carla Purcell, CEO of Keolis Downer (Yarra Trams operator) states that, ” “The #AllAboard tram is an important symbol of the diversity, acceptance, and inclusion we strive for in our workplaces, on our trams and across our city. ”
Submissions will be received until 11th of August via the Yarra Trams website and will be reviewed by a panel of ten judges, including the Minister for Public Transport, Ben Carroll MP. The finalists will be presented to Melbourne for a public vote to decide the winner. Voting will be open the entire month of September.
JOY Media CEO, Ange Barry stated that, “JOY Media is so excited to be apart of the All Aboard Campaign in collaboration with Yarra Trams for the second time. As Australia’s only LGBTQIA+ radio station we are in a wonderful position to showcase the many talented artists and promote this to our community.”
The winner of the competition will win a cool $5000 prize, with the runner up will take home $3000. The winning design will be wrapped around a D-class tram that will run on Melbourne’s tram network, the world’s largest, for an entire year. The second placed design will be wrapped around a tram shelter in the vicinity of the Victorian Pride Centre for the Victorian Pride March in February. Along with this, in 2024 #AllAboard tram will once again serve as one of the highlights of the Pride March as it rolls down the closed streets of the parade cheered on by thousands of onlookers.
It is expected the winning design and final wrapped tram will be unveiled to the public in mid-December at the tram’s home depot in Malvern.
The current #AllAboard D-class tram (#3531) is wrapped in last year’s winning design by Melbourne-based artist Marco Pennacchia and operates on routes 5, 6, 16, and 72.
