Always wanted to start a podcast or make radio but didn’t know how?

JOY 94.9 is giving 24 lucky people living in regional, rural or remote Australia the opportunity to learn and create all things podcasts and radio!

The Our Rainbow Country Scholarship, proudly supported by BHP, aims to reduce social isolation and build social connection for regional, rural and remote LGBTIQASB+ individuals. (Lesbian, gay, bisexual/bi+, transgender and gender diverse, intersex, queer, asexual, sistergirl and brotherboy)

This course is specifically designed to provide accessible podcast and radio training so you can participate using equipment that you have at home. All you need access to a phone, tablet or computer and an internet connection.

If you identify within the LGBTIQASB+ community and are based in regional, rural or remote Australia, you’re eligible to apply for this scholarship.

Thanks to our 2020 GiveOut Day backers and BHP, the Our Rainbow Country Scholarship will grant 97% of the Podcasting and Radio Content Training Course cost valued at $1475.  Successful participants will only be required to pay $45 AUD towards the course.  

The nine-week online course will be run via zoom for three hours per week starting mid-June 2021. You will learn the basics of podcasting, writing for radio and podcasts, media law, interviewing techniques, presenting, recording and editing, as well as how to market your own podcast.

Through the nine weeks, you will receive on-going feedback and support from JOY’s expert team of trainers. Your mentor will guide you through the content and be available for on-going conversation after your podcast is complete where you can discuss your potential for future projects with JOY 94.9.

Our mentors will also be adjusting the course to cater to the technology you can access in your community.

If you believe you have something to say, a story to tell and would like to offer a voice for your community, this scholarship is for you. We know that technological resources and dedicated broadcasting spaces for marginalised voices are rare in many locations.

We hope this program is able to provide audio production experience to those who don’t otherwise have access.

JOY 94.9 is an independent, community funded not-for-profit radio station that showcases sexual and gender diversity with the purpose of building a more inclusive Australia.
