Diary of an Intern: Atty

JOY has been pleased to have Atty join us as our intern for the last six weeks. Atty has been a welcome addition to the team, bringing a great energy and enthusiasm to his work, and providing really valuable insight and perspective. Today, on his last day in the role, we’ve asked him to share some of his thoughts and reflections on his time as an intern with us.

Many things could have been done in six weeks. Perhaps you could have renovated you long-awaited backyard, finished the scripts for a limited series TV show, crossed off some titles from your growing booklist, and, as what many people love to say, formed a routine.

Six weeks may not seem like a long time, but it was sufficient for me to form a routine, a routine that I will always feel nostalgic for— working at JOY as an intern.

During my time at JOY, the morning leadership meetings were always a delightful way to kick off the day. Watching team leaders discuss upcoming changes and plans for JOY, and openly sharing personal progress and feelings on a weekly basis, helped me grasp what a healthy workplace environment should look like.

I was fortunate to be assigned as an assistant producer for the JOY Drive show, and from then on, writing scripts for the show became a part of my routine. Witnessing content transform from merely words on a page into entertaining and educational interviews broadcasted on air brought me so much joy.

Apart from that, I was also entrusted with audio editing tasks. Despite having limited experience in this role, I was able to start and better my editing skills with the continuous support and guidance from the JOY team members. I am truly grateful to them for their assistance and mentorship.

I came to JOY at the end of the winter cold blaze, finished my journey here in the glimpse of warm spring. But the warmth I felt in this seemingly endless winter first came from the friendly JOY team members. I was welcomed with patient, kindness, continuous help and encouragement. I was lucky to have had the opportunity to work with the loveliest individuals behind the incredible productions of JOY shows. They are the backbones of this 30-year-old and ongoing rainbow community radio station, and I will forever cherish the moments we shared together.
